March 20 Driver of the Week

Greyson Emery, 11 years old, is Callahan Speedway’s March 20th’s Driver of the Week.  He drives Box Stock Purple Plate Number 5 and has been racing for about a year.  He just likes to go fast.  He also has raced on Brunswick and Alma, GA, tracks.

Greyson is in the fifth grade at Oak Grove Intermediate School, Darien, GA, where his mother, Dana, is also a teacher.  His father, Brian, owns Island Rental on St. Simon Island.

He hopes to graduate to the “big cars” when he’s 15.  Greyson likes math and science and, right now, wants to join the Navy and become a military policeman when he’s old enough.

James also announced the Winter Point Champions for the Speedway.
Jordan Hancock March 13 Driver of the Week

Jordan Hancock, driver of #99, a 2005 Prowler, is Callahan Speedway’s Driver of the Week for March 13.  He’s been driving GoKarts for about a year, almost since Callahan Speedway began operations.  Previously he had driven drag races with his Mustang.

He drives in the Cruizer Class of GoKarts, 425 pounds BP/FH maximum kart weight. 225 pounds.  This class may be found in the Florida Karting Association rules.

Twenty four years old, Jordan works for Life of the South, an insurance company in Jacksonville.
"I couldn't be as good as I am without help from Doug Higginbotham and Dirty D Motorsports."

Wild Bill Driver of Week  0328

Bill Daugherty, aka “Wild Bill,” has been racing for much of his life.  He graduated from Go Karts to open wheel modified in 1981 and won Rookie of the Year in 1993 at Lake City.  He drives Cruiser Class (425 top weight) 01.  His cart is powered by a Hicken Motor, built by David Hicken, one of the owners of Callahan Speedway.
Hicken motors are well sought after in the Go Kart racing field.

He later moved from open wheel modified to a sprint car, best described as a “wing on top,” which he drove for three years.  He decided to return to Go Karts, partially because of expense, when Callahan Speedway opened.

His wife, Rene, is his crew chief.  They married about the time he started racing.  They just celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on February 1.  They have a son, 14 year old Jacob, a 26 year old daughter, Kambria, and two grandsons.

When he’s not facing, Bill drives truck for RBJ Timber.

All the racers and spectators who visit Callahan Speedway are anticipating the Florida Karting Association State race on April 24.  See the Callahan Speedway website and contact James Wofford, (904) 838-7546, or David Hicken, (904) 507-1687, for more information.
