From the Editor:
Hi, I'm John McCoy and this is my newspaper, Florida Snips & Snaps .
I've had the opportunity to be published in a number of places including HUBPages, Triond, Associated Content, the North Florida News Daily (archive John McCoy), and the Westside Journal, a weekly newspaper in Callahan, FL, to name a few. I think I do a fairly good job and I'm egotistical enough to want to see my work in print or on the net. I'm interested in
free lancing please let me know if you'd like me to write for you.
Advertising money, I'm told, is more scarce now than it has been. Since most newspapers are controlled by their advertising budget, work such as mine often has no space. I've got space, thanks to GoDaddy and the invaluable help of the Website Tonight staff.
If you're even thinking about getting into print, costs are exorbitant. This is one of the ways to sate your hunger for notice.
Here's a bit more about me:
I'm 65+ and retired from the USAF as a senior master sergeant with more than 23 years service. My wife of 46 years and I have six children, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren (at last count). Our most recent was born 10/30/09 and her photo is in Announcements. We've been advised that another is on the way.
If you have a birth, wedding, anniversary or other announcement, please let me know by sending me a note at this address: editor@floridasnipsandsnaps.com. I'm especially interested in veterans. Please include the period of time you were on active duty and any major campaigns in which you participated. All will be welcome.
I love to read, especially science fiction and mysteries. I also
enjoy going to the movies, but am quite irritated by those -- most,
unfortunately -- which do not follow the books on which they're based.
I didn't have that
problem with Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen which I enjoyed very
much. It didn't precisely follow the book but was close enough.
I believe most of our major advances were once science fiction.
Remember the name of our first atomic submarine? The Nautilus was one of the main "characters" in Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The first space shuttle, the Enterprise, was the star ship commanded by Capt. James Tiberius Kirk in the Star Trek series.
We need for human beings to reach planets around other stars. One reason -- the Earth is becoming too crowded. Another is Lucifer's Hammer, by
Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle
. So far, Jupiter's been hit by parts of a comet and something else. Either would have devastated the Earth and killed us had it hit here.
I also have this new website, an online newspaper, and I welcome readers and advertisers. The address is: http://floridasnipsandsnaps.com/. Take a look, offer suggestions and help me get a ton of readers so I can get advertiser interest. If you have any ideas, please let me know by sending me a note at this address: editor@floridasnipsandsnaps.com.
I'm also looking for articles and photos. No guarantees -- I'm the editor and have to decide what may or may not be published.
I also can't offer any more pay than photo credits or article bylines -- right now. I hope to make enough money to pay for submissions later.
I hope you enjoy my work. I sure have had fun trying to put it together.
Irish Blessings on You All. May Your Enemies Be Afflicted With Itching Without the Benefit of Scratching.
Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to all.
