Sailing Vessel Poet

I happened to see a truck  saying Poet on the front plate.  Thinking that this plate meant the driver was a poet, I stopped and asked a couple of questions.  Turns out that Jack Morley of Fernandina Beach, FL, is not exactly a poet, but owns a sailing vessel named Poet.

Here’s part of what he sent me:

“I've attached a .jpg photo' of the Sailing Vessel Poet to this message.  The photograph shows Poet sailing past Fort Sumter on her way out of Charleston, SC bound for Fernandina Beach, FL.

Poet is a custom-made, steel-hulled yawl.  She was built for Mr. G. H. van Capelleveen of Lutjewinkel, Holland.  She was built in 1967 at de Bock en Meyer Shipyard in Den Helder, Netherlands.  She was originally named "Njord."  Njord i
s a mythical Norse god of the sea and fertility.

“My wife, Cindy, and I have owned the yacht for 17 years now.  We renamed her Poet from a piece of music the we both enjoy; The Poet And The Peasant overture by Franz von Suppe (not to be confused with the short story of the same name by O. Henry).  We call the yacht Poet and the dinghy The Peasant.”

I’m hoping to get more
information from Jack and also about his vessel and the fishing and charter industry working out of Fernandina Beach, FL.
