What Is Fang?

It's not really "Fang," but "FLANG.”  What does it mean?

No, it has nothing to do with Jaguars, other four-legged cats with big teeth, or even with Vampires – it refers to the Florida Air National Guard.

According to Wikipedia, “The United States Air Force's 125th Fighter Wing (125 FW) is an Air National Guard unit operationally-gained by the Air Combat Command (ACC), located at Jacksonville Air National Guard Base at Jacksonville International Airport, FL.

This sign marks the intersection where you turn off Terrell to get to the Wing which is on Fang.

The Guard, as do the other military services, offer many opportunities for young men and women.  You even might have a chance to get a bonus for enlisting, depending upon the field.

The 125 FW also maintains an alert detachment of F-15 Eagle fighter aircraft at Homestead AFB in South Florida.”  For more information concerning this very important military unit, check out the article in Wikipedia.

Using the same criteria, both the Texas and Tennessee Air National Guard units would be called "TANG."

Public Radio, Good Listening

If you like great music, listen to Performance Today
on American Public Radio.  It’s really easy to get the program on your computer, sit back and listen while you work.  This is just one of the many wonderful programs available.

What Smells So Good?

Something new's brewing at the Callahan Winn-Dixie on SR 200.  They now serve free coffee, part of Winn-Dixie's policy of keeping everything fresh.

Coffee's not the only thing that's perking at Winn-Dixie.

Get your new Rewards Card and use it every time you buy groceries.

You save 5 cents for every $50 in purchases with your new card.

My daughter, for example, has gotten more than $1.00 off per gallon for up to 20 gallons.

Perks expire, generally, at the end of each month and, while you can get up to 20 gallons, you need to use it at one time because it doesn't carry over.

Here in Nassau County, FL, we can take advantage of fuel perks at the Shell Station on the corner of US 17 and SR 200 in Yulee and the BP Station in Callahan has just started accepting Fuel Perks.  Otherwise the nearest station is the Shell Station on Dunn Avenue in Jacksonville.  Just go down Lem Turner from Callahan and turn left on Dunn.

In the meantime, remember your fuel-perks card, enjoy the coffee and the many other changes.  Check your Winn-Dixie for more information or visit winn-dixie.com/fuelperks on line.  Also check the Winn-Dixie home page  for more savings and information.

You can also find out about the many specials at Winn-Dixie by signing up for their newsletter.  They always have something on sale, but you usually need your Rewards Card.

  What's Happening, Callahan?

If you want to find out what's happening in Callahan, all you have to do is look at this sign.  It's located just north of the SR 200/US 1 Intersection.

I agree with this sentiment.
Remember to call 879-3121 in plenty of time because there are many others who want their event publicized.
