The Nassau County Sheriff's Office is joining with hundreds of other law enforcement agencies across Florida in renewing a pledge to save lives by intensifying efforts to enforce seat belt laws.

Deputies are taking part in Click It or Ticket. The campaign starts today and runs through March 15th.

Deputies will issue seat belt citations to drivers and passengers who are not buckled up. If a licensed passenger is not restrained, he or she will get a $101 citation. If a child is not buckled up, the driver will have to pay $151.

According to data from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, more than 2,900 people were killed in motor vehicle related crashes in 2008. Research has shown that seat belts, when properly used, save lives. For more information on the benefits of wearing a seat belt, you can log on to www.nhtsa.gov.

Buckle up and be safe.

Missing Boater Found

Deputies with the Nassau County Sheriff's Office found the body of a missing fisherman Thursday in the St. Marys River. Arthur Clyde Clark, 80, was last seen around 4 p.m. on March 2, 2010 leaving from Scotts Landing Boating Ramp, 29530 Scotts Landing Road, in Hilliard.

Deputies found Mr. Clark’s body just before 2 p.m. not far from the boat ramp. They were able to find the location from an alert by a K-9 cadaver dog from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. A side scan sonar was used by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. A diver from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body.

Sheriff Tommy Seagraves and deputies with the Nassau County Sheriff's Office and other law  enforcement agencies searched in and around the St. Marys River for almost two whole days.

They used boats, helicopters and K-9 cadaver and tracking dogs in the search for Mr. Clark.
